I have a bunch of files I just ripped into FLAC and now I want to transcode some of them to MP3 to use with my portable MP3 player. Are there any versions of LAME that will accept FLAC files as input?

AFAIK not, but you can easily use Speek's multifrontend or all2lame to transcode your files. Your mp3s can be automatically have tags added if you wish to. Make sure you have flac.exe and tag.exe in the directory where the frontend program and lame.exe reside.

Frontah works very well for this. I use it for FLAC > MP3, and FLAC to MPC. It also preserves the tags, and can create directories for the output files.
Edit: Foobar2000 would also work.

Easy CD-DA extractor also does direct FLAC->MP3 (lame) transcoding. FLAC tags end up in the MP3s. Works great for me.
LameDropXPd does direct ape to mp3. OK...that doesn't help with flacs so this is more FYI. John33 is probably in the process of a re-write that will make LD's configuration like OggDropXPd's (which does direct flac to ogg), and most likely will have direct flac conversions when released (I hope).
