The difference in the RG-calculations for Vorbisgain and Foobar is minor (0.05-0.1 dB IIRC).

My advice is to use whichever one you fancy best.

Either, they both do the same thing. ReplayGain info is stored in a normal Ogg tag.

No need to use another if they are almost identical.

Is there a way to permanently save the replay gain changes without writing tags? I want to be able to actually change the file, much like mp3gain will do if you choose to not write tags.

It's theoretically possible, but no tools exist for that yet.

Did you notice how mp3gain alters the volume in 1.5dB increments? If a volume-altering program for Vorbis were to appear, it would have to alter the volume in 2.2dB increments.

Volume-wise, 2.2 dB changes are a lot worse than what's possible with vorbisgain, so I doubt a tool would come out any time soon.

What you CAN do is compress your music with FLAC, ReplayGain it in foobar2000, and then encode those FLACs to Ogg Vorbis with oggdropXPd using the "Use FLAC Gain tag to set Scale Factor automatically". You can choose album or track gain. This isn't a lossless like mp3gain, but it actually alters the encode, and is permanent. No, this won't solve your problem if you already have your Vorbis encodes, but as of right now, there IS NO way to physically ReplayGain one's Vorbis encodes anyway.

I am also going to gain my Ogg Vorbis collection. And I want to gain all albums to the same level with no clipping (almost no clipping). As I know in MP3GAIN recomended gain level is 89 dB (however I used 90 well with almost no clipping). However I noticed that vorbisgain and foobar use antother measurement. I would like to know the recomended gain value for Ogg Vorbis. Does anyone lnow the answer?

The default is 89dB, the same as most other ReplayGain-enabled programs.
