Ok, I installed the special version of 0.8 with all the plugins including the ID3v2 tag reader plugin.

In the foobar standard inputs, I made sure I had ID3v2 and ID3v1 selected. I quadruple checked the components to make sure the ID3v2 plugin was installed.

I then ripped an album with EAC into LAME 3.90.3 --alt-preset standard, making sure that ID3v1 and v2 tags are added to the file.

Winamp and iTunes read the tags 100% perfectly.

Add the songs to a playlist on Foobar.

No ID3 tags are displayed, just the file names of the mp3's.

Go back to Winamp and iTunes, the brand new mp3's have their tags read fine.

What the hell am I doing wrong?

Have you processed these files with mp3gain?

Yes

Solved the problem. Apparently mp3gain is causing this issue.

Thanks!

I just came to this forum to search for this problem. I am having it too, with the same software (.8 special). However, I didn't just rip them. I did the ripping and MP3Gain sometime ago.

I used the masstagger last week to add the tags, which appeared to work. However, I noticed today they weren't being displayed. I pulled the files up in a binary editor, and I could see the tags (though it didn't go so far as to verify they weren't corrupted in some way).

This also has been happening to a handful of other files.

Do you have more info on this? Are you saying that MP3Gain permanently corrupts the tags somehow, or was this a shot in the dark?

What I did to arrive at that conclusion:

1) Re-ripped a couple of songs in EAC, compressed with LAME, and tagged

2) Load into Foobar

3) Confirmed tags were showing 100% fine

4) Ran mp3gain on them

5) Reloaded them into Foobar

6) Confirmed tags were missing

I have no clue why this is the case, but mp3gain must do something wrong for this to happen.

I did find this thread: http://www.hydrogenaudio.org/forums/index....ndpost&p=179020

When mp3gaining, it adds APE2-tags with metadata to the file.

When Foobar reads the tags in the file, APE2 take precedence over ID3. Therefore your ID3 tag doesn't get read.
