Full Version: Case's page seems to be gone

I just noticed that Case's page is gone, and I feel that it's gone for good crying.gif
There was a really good MPC downloads section (encoders, decoders, WinAmp plugins, etc.), I think that all the stuff from there should be available somewhere (on Rarewares?). Did anyone talk about it with Case?
And BTW, since Rarewares are no longer hosted by HA, there's no link here to any place where all the must-have tools are available. HA really lacks a Downloads or Links section now. I think that something like that should be created, or the Rarewares link should be put back at least.

Yeah, I noticed it too. We have lost great foobar moderator and plugins developer sad.gif Case, we will miss your great work here...
indybrett
Does anybody find it strange that there has been no discussion of WHY he lost interest? Maybe he just doesn't have time anymore. I'm sure somebody on this forum knows what the story is.
JohnV
I don't think there's really any "behind the scene reason" for this. It seems he's just a bit down because of many things. Nothing very surprising considering this damn long winter here in Finland... dry.gif

In the meantime, is there any place to download the latest Musepack encoders? It took me 10 minutes to find Musepack 1.14, which I eventually downloaded from eac-audio.de, and I gave up looking for the latest 1.15 alpha. Everyone seems to link to Case's now-defunct site...
razer
I would gladly put up a site for MPC related downloads, as I have a domain (www.subdamage.com), but I'm leaving for the army in less than a month, and I won't be able to update it at all. sad.gif
rjamorim
I can probably host the binaries and sources at RareWares. Can anyone e-mail me them? (encoders, decoders and english plugin)

If you e-mail, please mention it in this thread after, else my mailbox might get filled with repeated files tongue.gif

How about salvaging Tag?
Sources? Anything?

I love that tagger and would hate for it just to disappear.

Already uploaded to the "Others" section.

And looking for sources...

I just emailed the tag source code smile.gif

Edit: I also just mailed the MusePack Winamp 3 0.92b Alpha plugin since I noticed it was not up at Rarewares.

Hrm, but is anyone still using Winamp3? Nullsoft themselves gave up developing it, and I removed the FAAD Winamp3 plugin because nobody was downloading it.

If people consider it's worth featuring, I'll upload it there.
crazee_canuck
Does anyone have the CoolEdit Pro/Adobe Audition filters that Case wrote?

I have cool_lame, cool_mpc, and cool_ogg on my HDD....I can't find the others. sad.gif

I'll e-mail cool_mpc for inclusion in our excellent repository...(timestamp of 4/24/2003 inside the zip file).

Personally, I am not using it. I just figured I'd upload it to you incase you wanted to add it in the future and since it was a download on Case's site.

Edit: I also remembered seeing a Linux compile of the MusePack encoder up on Case's site. Anybody have that?

@crazee_canuck: yes, cool_mpc would be welcome.

cool_lame and cool_vorbis were created by Peter Pawlovski, and are already available at RareWares.

I've sent Wapet.

I've sent Wapet.

It's already at the Others section.

Now, could someone explain me what is it used for, so that I can add a description to the page? :B

It's similar to MPCencT, is used to add APE tags at once with any CUI encoders. Also, it can handle 2byte characters without any problems.
john33
I'd already grabbed many of the sources. wink.gif I guess it's time to sort out what I have!! biggrin.gif
Tec9SD
After I saw that Case took down his foobar files I realized it may be a good idea to get everything left while it was available (I've been through similar circumstances where software was lost for good) so fortunately I downloaded all the files available on his site.

Roberto will be putting everything of interest to people on RareWares.

I will still probably have a great deal of binaries and source if anyone is looking for anything else. A full "site dump" of all of the files will probably be 75 lines long so I'm hesitant to post it on HA, unless others believe it helpful.
---------------------

Perhaps a single post with all the sent plugins merged to make tracking duplicates or would-be missed files would help?
I thought of making it but it may be easier for a mod. Or would a new thread be better?

Best of wishes Case, tec

Many thanks to everyone who is contributing!

The Tag source code on Rarewares seems to be version 2.0.38, whereas the compiled exe is version 2.0.39b.

Does anybody have the latest source code?
Jasper
I just had a look and I did have a file with the tag source labelled as 2.0.39 (by myself), but it also seemed to contain the source for 2.0.38, even though the created date of the file was quite recent (January of this year). So it might be possible that he simply forgot to update the download for the source code. Perhaps someone should kindly ask him for it?

Upload it, please, there ARE people who still are using Winamp3, I was downloading that plugin for some of them a couple of times from Case's page.
Tomb
I thought that might happen so I grabbed the whole site about a fortnight ago including all htm pages including the guides etc.

If I can help in anyway just ask.

Edit: Just checked. First backup was at the beginning of March so all the Foobar files including the sources are there.
Antonski
It would be great if somebody add mp4 support.
Well, I don't have many mp4 files yet, but soon maybe...
rjamorim
You can get most of Case's stuff here. I haven't sorted files out yet.

http://www.rarewares.org/files/case/

I won't host foobar plugins. First, because Chastity is already doing a good job hosting them, and second because it requires a lot of dedication (recompile everything whenever there is a new major version).

That folder will go down as soon as I sort some files to their respective sections at RW, and delete the ones I won't host, so don't do direct links from web pages or forums.

Lots of thanks to Tec9SD for providing the files.

Best regards;

Roberto.

I had no ideal Case made so many things, I should have browsed his whole site.

I'm happy to see these very useful and much needed utilities living on at RareWares, and not being forever lost.
YinYang
Case made/makes a helluwa lot of uselful small proggies. I guess his programs are great tasters for how things usually are done on Linux (small dedicated programs doing few, but efficient, tasks)

Oh well, I guess he'll return if he feels like it.

Erm... thanks, but cool_flac is already featured at the Lossless page
http://www.rarewares.org/lossless.html

I don't think I will be hosting sources. This big batch of new files will bloat RareWares and finding files there might become a nightmarish experience.

Well, some HTML space tongue.gif

Really, look at the debian section (xmixahlx is working on it though). I could host a treasure hunt there and all participants would come out frustrated. The pages are a nightmare to manage, let alone browse. Adding countless new files now wouldn't be a wise idea.
smz
Roberto,

it is already a "treasure hunt"!! tongue.gif

And if that can help, yes, I have spare space at my web site (I have my own domain but it is pratically unused right now) that I will be glad to put at your and the community disposition.

I've got some of the files from Case's site ... probably most are made public, but somebody asked for the wapet tutorial....? Or did I imagine it? Anyways I got "EAC configuration for Musepack.mht" for upload... and other stuff if needed...
