Are the sources included in the libvorbis package on rarewares really GT3b2? Taking a look at 'info.c' and the vendor of encoded oggs lists "Xiph.Org libVorbis I 20031230", without any mention of sjeng.org or the explicit label gt3b2 as shown in the vorbis faq. Also, linking the standard xiph encoder to the compiled library results in the same nominal bitrates (no 20kbps increase in q5+) and encoded files were bit-exact between 1.0.1 and the supposed 'gt3b2'.
QuantumKnot
Ah, John33 would be the best person to ask about that. smile.gif
QuantumKnot
I've uploaded my copy of the GT3b2 source to here

This should be identical to the one John33 uses in his compiles.

EDIT: I thank Roberto for kindly offering some ftp space on rarewares smile.gif

Your copy looks good QK, thanks.

Is this gt3b2 "do not use version" or improved gt3b1 one?
Can 1.0 RC2 decoder decode gt3b2 files?
Is encoder "oggdropXPd V.1.7.11 using GT3b2" BSD-Licensed? I mean commertial usage.
Can files encoded with "oggdropXPd V.1.7.11 using GT3b2" be used in commertial products?
QuantumKnot
I haven't seen reports of GT3b2 breaking quality when compared with GT3b1 (yet). It is simply a merge of GT3b1 + 1.0.1CVS so it should be safe to use. Note that it does not contain HF reduction code which is considered experimental at this stage.

If it decodes 1.0.1 files correctly, it will work with GT3b2 files.

I forget exactly what the wording says, but it was certainly my intention that the licensing would be identical to the standard Xiph licensing, as I believe it is supposed to be!! wink.gif

The only restrictions would relate to the copyright of the material, not the encoder used.

I know, so there is question: will RC2 decode 1.0?
Cobra
1.0.1 is BSD licnsed.
John33 encoder is GPL2 licensed, but content made with it not.
So question is about Garf tunings - are these tunings BSD licnsed as Vorbis is?

BSD with _request_ to link/refer to http://sjeng.org in a clearly visible place (about box or docs are fine).

Yes. RC1 will, too.

There were rather obscure bugfixes in RC1->RC2 and RC2->RC3 but nothing that would be worth worrying about.

Am I understand you corectly? :

using encoder with gt3b2 e.g. in game is same as BSD-licensed Vorbis 1.0.1, but e.g. in "credits" author of game need to make link to sjeng.org?

He don`t have to add this link, but adding such link is moral?
Garf
Yes. (Why'd you want to use an encoder in a game, anyway? smile.gif)
Cobra
So files made with GT3b2 are "standard" BSD-licensed Vorbis files - standard XIPH BSD-license apply, no more licenses - for files?

EDIT: I mean only usning in game *.ogg files encoded with "oggdropXPd V.1.7.11 using GT3b2" not encoder itself. I ask for law situation (licensing).
