There is also an incompatibility with 3ivx MP4 splitter 4.5.1, that will be resolved in their next release. We were putting the wrong value in a field that should have been ignored, so there was actually a problem in both implementations.

[3ivx problem same as foobar]

Karl (or anybody else who knows),

Has this bug described in this thread in RealPlayer been fixed in the "new" version of RealPlayer that was released on Monday (2 days ago) as described in the below News.com article?

http://news.com.com/2100-1025_3-5186610.html?tag=nefd.top

Or do I need to wait for a future update of RealPlayer 10?

I think that may be a delayed news article describing the Gold release from a little while back, and I am not sure this bug was been categorized as important enough to release a slipstream for, but I will ask. I do not know the MP4 file format myself, but the field is supposed to be ignored by players.
"When a file is read as an MPEG-4 file, the values in the template fields shall be ignored. "
Using the wrong value is still non-compliant though.

EDIT: as far as I know, only 3ivx 4.5.1 currently has a problem with these files, but this will be fixed in their next update. Foobar fixed the problem in 0.8.1, and all other players I have tried work fine, incl iPod and iTunes. If anyone know of other players or decoders that have a problem, let us know. Thanks.

Thanks for your reply Karl. I appreciate it.

Since it can already playback HE AAC encoded M4A files, adding encoding should be pretty easy as you already have the licenses from CodingTechnologies and could pay a fee per encoder license/unlock code you sell I presume.

this doesnt sound logical to me... i might be wrong, but i really doubt decoder needs a payed license, otherwise foobar would never be able to playback HE AAC files, as it does

Patent issues, etc. exist. Anyway my discussion you replied to about HE AAC encoders/decoders has been moved to a new thread at:

http://www.hydrogenaudio.org/forums/index....howtopic=20559&

to keep from possibly leading this existing thread off topic. Please reply about this over there. Thanks.

Foobar is simply an unlicensed decoder, some people would call this "illegal"

These are the licensing fees for HE AAC:
http://www.vialicensing.com/products/HE_AA...ense.terms.html

So, yes, if Foobar isn't paying them, it is illegal.

Of course, it depends on ViaLicensing to go after their payment. If they don't care about Foobar, then it's not our problem.
