Full Version: iRiver's iMP-550 crazyness - VBR related?

Well, here's the problem. I just got a new iMP-550 PCDP, upgraded it's firmware to the latest official stable which is V.1.40 EU and configured the settings to my liking.

Anyhow, I've had it for 2 days and have only had time to test with Audio CD's until yesterday that I got access to my PC again and recorded the first MP3 CD to test the unit properly.

So here's the deal, first off the MP3s are built by extracting from original audio CDs with EAC, then encoded using LAME 3.90.3 --alt-preset standard, ID3V2 is enabled, and the field Track, Title, Artist and Album have been filled.

File naming scheme is 01 - Artist - Title and so on for a Full Album. The CD root had 4 Full Albums, the structure was:

Artist
Album Name 1
01 - XX - XX.mp3
02 - XX - XX.mp3...
Album Name 2
01 - XX - XX
02 - XX - XX.mp3...

You get the idea...

So my problems are:

1 The unit doesn't properly recognize the directory and file order. It shows Track 1 (which is actually named 01) and then Track 10 up until Track 19 in order and the shows Track 2 (which is actually 02) I tried changing the sort option, from Physical Address to the other 2 all to no avail.

2 The above issue I can live with, however when I start a directory, or the entire disc for all that matters, the unit plays Track 1 properly and in order, however track 2 is not track 2, but any other track. It can be showing on screen that it plays track 5 and it's actually playing track 12 or any other. And even worse, sometimes the beginning of a track is the middle of another. Let's say you choose track 9 and press play, when the track begins you are actually hearing the middle of track 3.

It's damn crazy and hard to explain. I recorded using Nero Burning ROM 6 (latest version) with an LG 8042B 241040X CD-RW, using regular 700MB CD-Rs. I named the disc OJ's Mix 001.

Also, I ticked all the options in Nero's ISO tab, Joliet, etc.

I provide you with all this otherwise unnecessary info as to improve my chances of a logical solution.

I am think it could very well be my recording software, because that very same disc is played correctly on a PC, everything like it should be. Also, Audio CDs on the iMP-550 play just fine.

Can anyone please help?. blink.gif

Ok, fixed it. Don't know how, or why. I tweaked some things in Nero and EAC and everything seems to be working ok now.

CD-RW readabily is not up to par...

So disregard this thread I suppose.

You case could be different, but generally the wrong order problem with the iMP-550 arises when different CD-Rs that all have the same title are played consecutively. The 550 apparently remembers the TOCs for the last few discs, and that throws it off.
