I want to make all my FLAC file read only in the file attributes. The problem is I have so many I don't want to do this individually and I can't find an option in Windows XP where it will do all of them at once. Does anyone have any suggestions?

Thanks,

how about 'select all' (ctrl-a)? You can then change the properties of the selection all at once...

edit - if they're not in one folder: perform a search for *.flac files, then select all in the search window.

If the tick box has a grey ticking, you need to re-tick it so that its black. Otherwise, not all files have the property set.

When you apply an attribute to a folder XP asks you if you want to apply it to all files an sub-folders too.

At the command prompt:

attrib +r <your_drive>\<your_base_folder>\*.flac /s

EDIT: You can also create a .cmd batch file containing the above instruction and use it at your will when you need it.

Do a search on your drive for *.flac.
Once the results are complete, select all.
Then change the properties.

It could take a while to get your right click menu depending on how many files you have.

the read-only flag became virtually useless over the last years, since it is a common trend among software engineers to simply ignore or forcefully break through it wink.gif
