biggrin.gif Not for me.

btw: mp3 is outdated and IMHO CDDA soon (okay, someday) will follow this path...

You haven't been following the three contentious CD vs SACD threads the last few days, have you? Maybe you should do some reading before trying to incite another discussion like that one.

As far as I could see from reading the MP3 standard this is not possible. However, it's a different story with AAC and other formats that support higher sample rates which could, theoretically, sound better than a CD. Whether they do or not, I have no way to check.

I would like to hear Gabriel or one of the other developer's opinions on this issue, as it could be deeper than we guess.

I believe that MP3 can support greater than 24 bits of resolution, so in theory if you started with a 24 bit master it MIGHT be possible to outperform CD on some material. Not sure about that - devs could probably set the record straight.

I think you are right. Food for thought: AAC or MP3 encoded from 24 bits source and played back with a noiseshaping decoder would give you 20 bits playback quality even on a 16 bit soundcard.

MS calls this "HDCD" smile.gif

Would such MP3 & AAC files be as artifactless as CDs? If so, the prof was talking about that kind of MP3 smile.gif
