--alt-preset 160, or slightly less if you REALLY don't want the average to go over 160. One problem with DVD audio is that it's usually 48kHz, while the --alt-presets are tuned for 44.1(CD sampling). You could try using ssrc for very high quality 48 --> 44.1 conversion. Personally, I suggest using
BeSweet as it will do all this on the fly. This is good for a few reasons:
1. you don't need tons of room on your HD for the Wave files.
2. it is simpler(1 step instead of 3)
3. high quality(floating point numbers are used, where they wouldn't if you had Wave Files)
you can use the --alt-presets and most of the other lame commands in BeSweet. And if you want to try another format, OGG and AAC are also at your disposal using BeSweet.
