I have win98se, pentium 3 @ 1.13ghz, directx 8.1, 512mb ram, several gbs free space on hard drive using fat32.

I have extracted shorten.exe to c:\temp\shorten\

I go to a msdos-mode window and change to that directory. I type shorten and press return. It just goes to another prompt. I type shorten -? and press return and it just goes to a prompt. I can type shorten /? , shorten.exe /help basically I can type shorten with or without trying any switches but when I press return it will just go to to a prompt, without displaying any information or error messages blink.gif

Anyway, thought I'd best report this, I will download an older version of shorten or shortendrop for now.

Well, I'm on XP sp1 here, but I had no problem getting it to output the help file at command promt:

But, one thing, it's a ICL7.1 compile... You might need to have libmmd.dll in %path%
Do you have it?

Will try to see if it will encode file too wink.gif
Mr_Rabid_Teddybear
Just compressed a standard 44/16 wav file with Shorten V. 3.5.2 2004-04-02 ICL7.1 compile using Multi Frontend as frontend, not using any switches. It produced a SHN and a SKT file, seems to playback fine, no problem. So unless there's a difference between xp sp1 and 98se....?

I checked and I do have libmmd.dll in c:\windows\system\

unsure.gif I have tried a few other encodes using either directly from the prompt or with batch files with optimfrog, flac and wavpack (flac being an ICL compile) and they encode and also decoded. I tried the new shorten compile again... but nothing! blink.gif

Well, I have an older shorten and shortn32.exe (and using the batchfiles) which all did work, so I'm able to encode happily enough smile.gif it's just this latest doesn't work for me
xmixahlx
is built and available for debian sid at rarewares

(and working fine, btw)

...and i'm assuming that the date (20040402) is just the compile date?
