Full Version: How to redetect bad sectors on NTFS WinXP?

There is program called "HDD Regenerator"

"Almost 60 % of all damaged by bad sectors hard drives have incorrectly magnetized
disk surface. Our researches have been fruitful and we have found algorithm which
is special sequence of high and low level signals. These signals are generated by
the software and they switch damaged surface. Even low level formatting is not
able to handle this task!"

"HDD Regenerator will regenerate your hard drive by magnetic reversal."

I chcecked it - it works! It repaired 169 bad sectors on my girlfriends HD and 2 bad sectors on my own!

But there is problem, sectors marked as BAD after regenerating are repaired but still marked as BAD. Partition Magic support "redetect bad sectors" but this not always works, and it is intended only for FAT16/32 volumes, not NTFS. After recovery only one choice is to remove partition and make new one. But it of course cause loosing data on partition, and loosing time!

How to redetect bad sectors on NTFS volume? Maybe there is way to erase information in MFT about bad sectors and then run "chkdsk" on such volume to detect really BAD sectors...

Look at this thread about HDD Regenerator:

About unmarking bad sectors:
You need low level format utility. Start it from diskette under dos and there should be option to unmark bad sectors.
