He claims that the file is only compressed with Monkeys Audio, but isnīt lame a mp3 codec? Another thing what bothers me are those additional command line options. To me it clearly seems to be lossy compression. The file itself takes about 275 MB in ape format, and is 38 minutes long. This on the other hand could be only compressed with ape, but why is that lame.exe in there? Havenīt heard it myself, so I canīt say any comments about the sound quality. Confused...

After reading your post twice I would say that your buddy's encode is LAME APS...correct me if I am wrong...

He could have transcoded to APE from MP3 which would be really stupid™.
Try running this tool to find out.

let me get this right:
your friend sent you a log file of his rip/encode, claiming he encoded to .ape,?
now, the file is still at his place and you got (a part) of the log?
what's this all about?
does your friend want's (via you) verify his settings, or what? I don't quite understand the whole purpose of this thread... blink.gif

an option that would clear things up, is that your friend just edited the log, hence the contradicting terms (lame + .ape)... huh.gif

edit: spelling

I didn't made any test to verify if this is possible, but, couldn't be that your "friend" (what kind of friends do you have, BTW tongue.gif) managed to get to this absurdely weired result renaming Monkey Audio executable to "lame.exe" and then convincing EAC to use it to generate an APE that pretends to be an MP3 and encapsulate it in a WAV container? This would be really wicked... Talk about EAC newbie-unfriendliness... wink.gif

Cheers!
