I downloaded an APE lossless compressed album which had been ripped with EAC and included all the logs/covers/cue sheet etc. so it was a very professionally put together release. I wanted to burn it back to CD with EAC again so I could allow for my CD-RW drive write offsets (which I know) - EAC is the only program I know of that allows for doing this.

This I managed to do just fine. The problem came in when I wanted to leave the CD open after the burn so I could tack the files I originally downloaded onto the end of the audio thus making a sort of CD-Extra CD. The audio is only 40mins long, so there is more than enough room on the blank CD to allow me to do this.

When I went to add the data track on the end with Nero (EAC doesn't allow the burning of anything but audio) I got a warning dialog to say that the first session wouldn't be accessible after burning the data session. I ignored it and burnt anyway, but the resulting CD now won't play the audio in any conventional CD player.

How can I do as described and get it to work?

Here's some more info on the above problem...

I need some help with doing this please. I have ripped a music CD in Cue/Wav format with EAC and then written that back to CD-R (again with EAC) and left the CD-Open after the burn. Nero agrees that the CD is still open and writeable with 286MB capacity left on it.

Now I want to add the losslessly APE packed version of that Cue/Wav rip behind the audio to make a CD-Extra disc. I can't get Nero to do this.

I have selected 'Start Multisession disc', Mode 2/XA, but then when I go to burn the disc, I keep getting this dialog saying that the disc is not empty and that proceeding with the burn will make the first session (audio) unreadable. I have already ruined one disc by proceeding with the burn and sure enough the audio was no longer readable by computer or Hi-Fi audio CD player.

The weird thing is that Nero will do a simulation with no errors at all, but when you try to turn that into reality it just keeps throwing dialogs at me. I need a step by step guide if anyone can point me in the right direction I'd really appreciate it.

I'm using EAC v0.95pb5 & Nero v6.3.1.6 Ultra Edition

I've never used EAC, or Nero to do what you are describing however you may want to give burnatonce a try since it can read .cue, so long as you allow it to register the filetype during installation.

Interesting problem;

The problem as I see it is that the audio section of a CD has to be closed for a real CD player to see it.
I don't think you can burn data CDs with EAC so you are SOL there. In nero you will not be able to use your offsets either.

Have you tried using the Mixed-Mode? it might or might not play in a regular CD player but it should be ok in most CD-ROMs

The problem also might be that you put multisession - for an audio CD you always have to have the session closed (AFAIK). so you might want to try 'Disk at Once' instead of multisession. In any case you might have to create some coasters to determine what works - the price of doing something extraordinary.

This is what I do to make CD-Extra discs:

I select "No multisession". Don't ask me why.
It doesn't work if I choose multisession.

Thanks for the replies, but it doesn't work.

I tried the suggested method to the letter and Nero just keeps giving me the "the audio will not be readable if you continue with this burn message".

The weird thing is that I know I have done this before using EAC & Nero. Something's changed somewhere though because no matter what I do I can't get it to work again.

How do you burn the data track?
TAO or DAO?
I think I do it in TAO mode and it works. Try both modes.

Maybe the reason is that new version of Nero...
Nero 6.3.0.x and 5.x worked for me.

I think this is just a wrong warning message in Nero. With nothing else left to try, I put a CD-RW disc in the drive and burnt it as per the instructions given just ignoring the warning Nero was giving me. Then I put that disc in my DVD player and it *does* work.

So sorry for saying it didn't work. It does. You just have to ignore the warnings given out by Nero.
