Yesterday i brought several mp3s from my friend. They were encoded with the CoolEdit's standart mp3/mp3PRO plug-in, using the "VBR - High Quality Stereo" preset. Playback in Winamp 5.03(using the default plug-in) was OK, but seeking in this files was broken. Also the info box showed that these files are VBRI. What is that?

VBRI is the VBR information header used by FhG. It's less widespread that Xing header, so less players support it, but I think Winamp should.

There is a program called VBRFIX that will fix the VBRI header information. I believe it just changes it to a Xing header so most players will play the MP3. It looks like VBRFIX's main page is down unfortunately. Try searching Google to find it.
