Full Version: MusePack Mime Type

Is there any "official" mime type for Musepack files? I noticed today my web server was sending them out as text/plain. Not a huge deal since the files were not damaged, but I'd to change it to something more appropriate... if one exists.

I've searched through Google for this and couldn't find anything. I guess for now audio/x-musepack will do for me. biggrin.gif

I've justed added the audio/x-musepack mimetype to KDE CVS. Let's see if we can make it the unofficial standard.

yeah, i also add the mime type for my server:
audio/x-musepack mpc mpp mp+

it appears someone needs to make it a standard...

Is there an authority for mime types?

The IETF maybe?

It is almost impossible to get an official mimetype (audio/vorbis and audio/mp4 are not even official yet), but your can either make your own x-* types or a vendor type vnd.FrankKlemm.mpc. With your own x-* types it just a really good idea to agree with others, for instance check mayor open sources projects like Apache, KDE, GNOME or freedesktop.org.

But application/ogg is AFAIK.

It looks like you need to register with the IANA, as shown on ftp://ftp.rfc-editor.org/in-notes/rfc1590.txt, but the authority seems indeed to be the IETF.

Did I get that right?
