Installing MP3Gain onto Windows XP "may, or will" cause an annoying problem.

System Stats:
* Windows XP Pro SP1a
* 3.20 Ghz P4 with Hyper-Treading
* 1 GB DDR RAM
* MP3Gain v1.2.3

The problem after installing MP3Gain:
The ability to right click in the Start Menu Group Program Folders disappears.

How to test this:
1. Open System Restore, and Create a restore point.
2. Install MP3Gain.
3. Start > All Programs > Right Click
4. If you can't right click you've got the problem.

This problem extends to the ability to sort, rename, delete obsolete icons, etc. No right click functionality on the Start Menu Group Program Folders can be achieved.

I had no ideal what did this earlier this year on my system, I didn't even think of MP3Gain being the cause -- however after uninstalling MP3Gain the functionality returned. To play things safe I restored my system with System Restore.

No problems here. XP sp1 and newest version of mp3gain. Reformatted last week.

Maybe it's something in the vb runtimes?

No problem at all neither here... same sw configuration, much lesser hw, but I don't think that count too much...

I don't know.

I have only used and installed with the the MP3Gain Normal Installer which doesn't included the MS VB Run-Time files.

No problem here either (W2Kpro, SP4)

I installed MP3Gain v1.2.3 (normal installer) again and the problem was there, so I used System Restore again.

I installed MP3Gain v0.9.7 (normal installer) and there was no problem.

I still think it's related to a VB error.

Have you tried a) deleting the mp3gain shortcut out of C:\Documents and Settings\<username>\Start Menu\Programs? and b) can you right click items there?

Barring that I think you have to wait for snelg for a more in depth answer.
