Well, I've been checking out the new 1.05g mpp encoder, and I've found it very, very difficult to find imperfections...I've been pulling my hair out, trying to abx a song by alan parsons, and it's 1.05g counterpart. Crazy thing is, I'm using "standard" as the preset. Maybe I'm just tired. So far, I'm testing out the stereo field on several files, as well as it's ability to correctly represent sounds created by high hats and guitars with distortion/wah-wah going on. For some reason, it almost sounds to me like the 1.05g sample has better stereo separation than the 1.04 sample, but I'm not totally sure just yet.

Reason I posted this was, I'd love to get some other people's trials. And hey, don't use different presets. If you do, the test becomes completely subjective, and silly. Just use --standard, and test from that. That way, Frank can have a good idea just how transparent "standard" really is. Also, we won't be fighting about subjective quality differences.

Test out some crazy stuff. Get something with wild stereo pan shifting, and (especially) more subtle stereo activity. Grab a song with some weird artificial sound, and another with some really well-recorded acoustic sound (maybe a good jazz or classical album). ABX it, and post your results...I'd like to see what we can come up with if we ALL use the same preset, with no customizations. And the ABX is important...basically, if you truly can tell the difference, ABX will back you up. And if you can't, ABX will tell you so smile.gif

I think that Frank could really use some good test results for his encoder, since it's been changing so much recently. Maybe it's time to do our part smile.gif
