In M/S stereo, why are L+R/(the square root 2) & L-R/(the square root 2) instead of L+R/2 & L-R/2 ?
If we use L+R/2 & L-R/2, in decoder we only do M+L & M-L without "/ (the square root 2)".
I think that it is easier.

In AAC the sqrt is removed

maybe the beauty of symetrie.
more likely to make the m/s processing unit reuseable for on-chip en-/de- coder
