alas, all my good and faithful Daewoo does is gather dust in the closet as it can't read DVD-Rs (or at least the Riteks i buy spindles upon spindles of) and makes horrible noises when reading CD-RWs.

the Shinco drive inside of it uses 650ma on the 5V rail and 700 on the 12V rail. however i DID run a 1.0/2.0A DVDROM drive i had laying around and it ran correctly (and quite well) for the short test i did with it. but that was before i read about people's DVD players starting to say No Disc inserted, even when they hooked up their old drive. turns out they were burning out the power supply in the standalone.

so the question is: are there low powered DVD-ROM drives out there that are pretty easy to find (like LiteOns) and cheap? (and that read DVD-Rs well)

(i also have an Apex AD-660, but the Daewoo has component output and is region changable)
