I'm using FooBar2000 for a month now. I changed a lot of settings and added a lot of plugins. Everything was running excellent until tonight. Suddently, I've lost all my settings and FooBar2000 uses the default ones.

How can I get my settings back? Where does FooBar2000 save its settings?

Thanks in advance.

Any chance you might have foo_audioscrobbler installed?

This component has lately become known to cause some serious issues in that direction.

Did Foobar2000 produce a crash log when that happened?

FB2K uses it's config file in the main foobar directory to store it's settings. So in case they are gone you are pretty much stuck with setting them up again. It might be usefull to back up your config from time to time to prevent that in the future.

Yes, foo_audioscrobbler and yes, a crash log... sad.gif

Maybe I've somewhere a backup. Otherwise, I should change all settings again.

Thanks anyway. smile.gif

But in what file does FooBar2000 save its settings?

Ah sorry. Didn't make myself all too clear there in my last post.

Foobar saves it's settings in the config file in the main foobar directory.

Edited previous post as well.

In case you really don't want this to happen anymore, you should probably remove foo_audioscrobbler until any problems with that component have been sorted out.

It seems yet again that foo_audioscrobbler is getting quite close to getting added to the list of banned components because of these issues not getting resolved.

No matter what component or situation (systemcrash or whatever) causes a crash, sometimes it happens and sometimes that crash will exterminate foobar2000.cfg and database.foo
Then foobar makes new files with default settings, and you have lost all your costum settings. This have happend 2-3 times with me, but after the first crash that nuked settings and database I learned to backup those files on a regular basis. And so I would recommend all users of fb2k to do. Maybe it would/could be a feature request to ask if fb2k could be asked to do an automagical backup of those files at spesific times/situations?

Luckily, I made a Ghost image last week, so I can restore the FooBar2000 dir from that image to my hard disk. I've all my settings back! smile.gif

Thank you.

Perhaps people should be updating their plugins.... Foo_audioscrobbler isn't causing (and never actually has) any problems.
Paranoia
....and just for anyone in this read thinking "I can't see any config files" if you have "multiple accounts" activated on XP, they'll be in C:\Documents and Settings\<username>\Application Data\foobar2000
