I see my monitoring the clever fellows at http://news.gmane.org/gmane.music.equipmen...imdevices.devel that serious progress is being made at getting SlimServer and the SqueezeBox to understand embedded cuesheets in FLAC files. I've never really understood why metadata tag info (genere, artist, album, trackname) cannot (or don't seem to) be part of a embedded cue sheet in FLAC files. Is extending this "standard" under consideration? Is there a simple reason why this should not be so?

I, for one, look forward to the day when I can begin the arduous task of re-ripping my entire collection to single FLACs per album with embedded cue sheets containing all relevant tags in a format that the SlimServer is likely to support.

Anyone care to enlighten me?

The answer is in the FLAC FAQ.

Someone's working on an implementation for the Slim Server. Who knows ... if it is good enough it may become the de-facto standard.

In the meantime metadata in external cue sheets works fine with the Slim Server.

Hummm. Interesting reasoning in the FAQ, the gist of which seems to be "we won't impliment this because it's a can of worms and we'll let someone else go first and take the heat from all the picky whiners."

I guess if I personally had to take heat from a bunch of picky whiners, I'd feel the same way.

Well, here's hoping that somebody eventually gets this done.
