You know, I'm interested in finding very good (hi-end) AMP and loudspeakers. Where can I find info about it?
FireStarter
What specific information are you looking for ?, in the end it is your ears who deside.
A propper Amp. is not so hard to find, more difficult is it to find suitable speakers.
But either way it is your money that set`s the limit.
If your going for a "top-notch" system, i wold say build a dual hybrid tube amp, with a
cross-over at the preamp. "push pull" from bottom to ex: 525, then "single ended" from there. loudspeakers to go with that would be lowther or home build.
As a low prize, i would check out NAD on the amplifier side, and perhaps
danish "Dali" speakers. Norwegian "electrocompaniet" are also
"top-notch" T-amps. but cost a little bit more. you could also check out danish "audiovector" speakers.
The reason i am so fond of Dali. is becouse they are among few labels
that build there speakers to runn at 4ohm., and that is a huge benefit for you and the system.

Actually, I want:
1. Some info about not expensive temporary audio system (about $~5000):
Audio CD (or DVDA)->Audiophile 2496 (or Waveterminal)->a good amp (don't know what to choose)-> good speakers (also, don't know what to choose yet).
I also want some not bad plate player.
Actually, don't know what to choose and where to buy. Have no idea about audio equipment... :-(
Want to find some used equipment...

2.Want to gather meanwhile some information about what to choose for about $REALLY BIIIG SOME OF MONEY!$ wink.gif
JMLab Grand Utopia Be loudspeakers class...

What is the advantage of using a 4 Ohm speaker?
If you want to say that it sucks more power out of an amp, than that is not a good argument. An amp can be designed to work optimally either 4 or 8 Ohms load. The power advantage using a 4 Ohm speaker over an 8 Ohm one is negligible, but the heat stress is larger on the amp.
So get the right amp for the speaker. This applies for car audio too.

what i ment by that was simply, *speed & dynamic`s versus overall cost.
* maybe a placibo effect, but when i listen with care and taking a close look at the
membran, it seems to me that a well constructed low freq. driver are more happy.
but this have a reverse effect when you consider the gain of todays music.

so if you get hold of a great, heavy ribbed/cooled amp. that`s intended to runn at 4.
i would go for it.

The one and only way to really find out what you want is to go into some Audio specific stores, and bring a few CD's which you know back and forth, so you know exactly what it should sound like. Then try try try different set ups available in the store.

Oh and very important to ignore pretty much everything (except the price) that the sales person will tell you, remember their job is to sell you stuff, you job is to get the best, which is more important? So if you think something sounds poor don't listed to excuses, if it's sound poor to you than it's poor, period! If the sales guy can't fix it on the spot (perhaps a poor connection) no matter what he says dump the system and move to next one. Remember that may system sell based solely on the fact that they are expensive "Hey look at this, costs $10,000, must be good!" Bose is a good example of such tactics.

So listen listen listend, and if it sounds crap then its crap regardles off "super duper Monster Cable interconnects" the sales guy would suggest. If it's crap it's crap, end of story!

For brand of speakers to try, I would suggest Paradigm and Yamaha, but with Yamaha make sure its actaul Yamaha product by going here and noting the model numbers, because there is a company called Global, that makes speakers based on Yamaha's design and with Yamaha label, but make no mistake, they suck. The ones on that website above are actual Yamaha made, real stuff.

Paradigm is a higher endish brand than Yamaha (for a reason, not just claim), of course costs more, so check that if you got the budget.

It is not negligible, it is about 1.5 times or 2 times the power at 8 ohms for the same distortion.

Anyway, you won't find much information about high-end hifi here. The purpose of this board is to gather factual, accurate and unbiased information. And unfortunately, the higher the price, the smaller the objectivity.

yes and no, if you half Ohms the power should double, if it doesn't than ther is no point of having a 4 Ohm capability over 8 Ohm if power response is not fast and strong enough. The value of Ohms is never ever ever exactly 1 number, it always fluctuates, without sufficient power response you will get distortion, so having 4 Ohms capability is bad here, since only stereo system can manage half the Ohms double the power trick on the fly. And from the looks/price of it he's going for home theatre.

You could look at some of these links. The reviewers do have some journalistic integrity but are also not in the business of discouraging hifi sales.

The bullshit piles up pretty quickly when audiophile stereos are involved.
But you could start reading some of the guides and buyer's guides.

It's nice to drool a bit over some of the stuff shown but as someone said, the proof is in the listening.

Not necessarily, the new maximum power available from the ampli depends on the transistors polarisation and load in a complex way. This is not just a matter of P=U^2 / R.
