After reading this forum I understood that .cue should be pointing to Jazz Collections - Unforgettable.ape, that way it worked okay. Winamp with mp3cue -plugin doesn't understand cuesheets after that change and because 100% of my many .cues are formatted like that, I wondered if that foobar2000's format isn't standard! So how is it?

A "standard" cuesheet should point to a wav. A program working with those standard cuesheets should try to open that wav and return an error when it is not found. Compressed audio files are not supported by those "standard" cuesheets at all.

You must point foobar2000 to a compressed file to avoid confusion when both a wav file and a compressed cd image are present.

Your other options are embedding a cuesheet in a tag (which works for moneky's audio and flac iirc), using .apl files instead of cuesheets in foobar2000, keeping separate cusheet files for mp3cue and foobar2000, and last but not least, contacting mp3cue author about making his software work with cuesheets pointing to compressed files.
