Searched but did not find a clear answer to this question.
When using --alt-preset standard , can you still change the bit rate?

in case you have selected 'user defiened encoder' only the commandline is taken into account.
if you use (a)ps or another preset, just leave it at that, don't play around with modifications, at least not for archiving.

Thanks,
I do not have "user defined " set, the setting is LameMP3 Encoder.

I just ripped a track using the default setting(128kbps), the track size is 6.53mb.
Then I changed to 320kbps, track size is 9.71mb.

So, when the bit rate is changed, does that negate/override all the --alt preset standard settings or just the bit rate setting?

it's not just the command line that is taken into account--EAC adds ID3 tags, for instance, and if you read my recent post you'll see that the encoder offset can mess up gaplessness even when you choose user defined.

If you want to use the presets you should set it to user defined instead. Then the bitrate choice will not affect the encoding.

When using user defined you need to end your commandline with %s %d, to inform EAC how to send the source and destination files to lame.
Like this:
CODE
--alt-preset standard %s %d
teleguise
I thought the requirement for the use of the additional %s %d was version dependent and not required anymore.

CODE
--alt-preset standard %s %d

Or am I confusing this with something else.

Also this mentions to use the presets to set user defined so the bitrate doesnt affect
the encode. Its been my experience that AGAIN maybe version dependent but
changing the bitrate setting ONLY changes the file size displayed. The use of the
presets override this and is meaningless.
Because i've ripped many tracks on one computer set at the default 128 and another I set at 224 just to getter a better idea of the end resulting file size and they are byte for byte identical.
(Actually I take that back I do believe theres like 3 bytes different in the header, nothing else.)

I didn't use "user defined" (Lame MP3 Encoder)but when i tried from 128 to 256, I think file size only increased by 2 or 3 bytes. Then I increased to 320 and that's when size changed by 3 megs.
