This may seem like a silly question and maybe its old age or amnesia smile.gif

I know theres tons of bloated software that can do a WAV>MP3 conversion but I couldnt
believe I didnt have one that was just a simple (Drag & Drop) converter. Doing batches
in Winamp is a pain and couldnt quite figure out how to do it in Foobar since the
only option I had was, to convert a WAV to WAV (pcm Floating or Fixed pointfile) and
didn't see any option or plugin for other formats.

EAC & CDex require the Wav to be in a specific format and these are of mixed variety, so those are out.

Really, 'ALL2LAME' is pretty much the idea. Only problem was that it appears there's
no control on the output format, its whatever the input was (bitrate/mono-stereo etc.),
which in many cases caused the already iffy quality wav's to really sound poor.

Use WavTrim and select the option to compact the wav files. This will usually enable programs, and encoders to work with the wav files without any problems.

Check out LamedropXPd! wink.gif

Hey, thanks guys for both recommendations, I will keep both handy.

Just to make a mention 'Wavtrim' also has some restricition with the format of wav as
well, so in many cases wouldn't work this particular mess of wav files.

'LamedropXPd' oddly enough only works with XP (I say that just because it doesn't say
it shouldn't work w/9x & thought the XP in the name didn't mean that). It did work on
my XP box taking care of most of the files w/o a hitch.

The remaining files appear were already 'mp3s of the riff-wav variety' (even though
prior software checks didn't say so) so wrote a simple batch file for 'riffstrip' since
again the only program that wanted to deal with this mess yet the end result after
renaming with a mp3 suffix were some that played and others that acted like a 2sec
truncated file, so what gives?

You might have some luck with dbpoweramp as well.

Huh? The XP in the filename does not denote that it only runs on Windows XP. It will run on any win32 platfom.

So did I since I thought I remember reading somewhere the XP meant 'experienced' or
something like that. However, for some reason on my 98 box everything appeared fine
other than the fact that if I dragged any amount of files and dropped them it did 'nada',
no output file, no warning or error nothing. Maybe an issue in the latest build or maybe
an issue on my machine although couldn't understand what since its all self contained
and it runs but maybe there's a 'shell call' not supported in 9x.

Thanks 'Jerethi' I was looking for freeware to do this since I don't plan on having to do this often and I didn't think dbpoweramp was in any capacity but I will check it
out.

Anyone with a suggestion of the remaining strange variation of 'riff-wav' files that act
like a 1-2sec silent file. Checking with a hex editor showed a 'riff-wav type' header prior
and they did play before w/the header and wav extension.

The clienc is in the special installer. You can set that up to use any commandline encoder.

Sometimes I still use the good-old RazorLame. It does not have any tagging functionality, but as a frontend for lame it does the job.
