Had an earlier thread about a OPTERITE CDRW that didnt read CDs.
Company sent me a "driver" for it, as many others were having the same problem, but that didnt work either.
Took it out to send back to manufacturer and bought a new LG CDRW GCE-8525B.

Good with software.
Stink with hardware.

Had boyfriend replace the LG Drive exactly as he said the Opterite drive was set up.

Fired up NTI CD Maker...........nadda, no go, nothing..........

Fired up Nero, simulated fine but didnt burn properly.

Now am wondering if oriiginal CDRW was also set up incorrectly but I havent the first idea what to look at.

2. What motherboard chipset/chipset driver are you using ? (could not hurt to describe your computer setup)

3. Since buffer underruns did occur, try to lower write speed and defrag harddisk - scandisk for your HDD couldn't hurt either (might be corrupted source files)

4. how did you connect your writer (sec/pri master/slave) ?

5. are you using 40-wire or 80-wire IDE cable ?

6. how old is your windows ?

7. any background apllications accessing the CD drive while writing/reading ? (like virus scanning software or packet writing)

8. how many burning apps do you have installed ?

Long, but I will answer and show you what I can....................

Perhaps from screenshots it might show that the install itself has something wrong, but the earlier post with what appeared to be a wonky burn, actually did burn and is being recogonized in both PCs.
But not good enough.
It shouldnt appear as if it isnt working, and hopefully I would prefer to use NTI CD Maker and down in this post I can show you what happens when I try to burn it in NTI....whcih wont even recogonize the drive.
I just feel it isnt 100% set up properly......or something?
And I am not very good with hardware issues......... ;-(

AMD Athlon XP 2600+
512mb RAM (DDR400 PC3200)
MSI KT4V-L Mainboard (has Audio & LAN onboard)

came highly recommended a year ago by a techie friend at 1/3 price of Dell I had purchased 3 yrs earlier but this has had a few hardware problems from day one, whereas Dell never caused any----original MB was fried first day and then the CDRW issue----otherwise has worked well since




Have:
Nero ROM Enterprise Editionm v.5.5.10.35 installed but never liked it for burning audio or data MP3s as I dont like the way it does file names with the _ underneath.
Only use Nero for burning VCDs/SVCDs/etc

Use for audio and backing up data MP3s,
NTI CD Maker 2000 Professional Edition Version 5.1.1.7

Because NTI had issues earlier when installed with Nero unless this particular version was used.
Works perfectly together on my other Win XP networked PC.


Try playing with settings in NERO but when I do, I get the usual window as I am about to burn which says, The following Joliet Files or Folders had to be renamed to make them compatible with the CD File system.
Dont ever have this problem with NTI CD Maker............

Ok, that was really a secondary issue but here are screenshots to show set up for both drives, Device Manager, etc...............I apologize for time involved in looking at such screenshots.
Some MIGHT not be necessary to look at, I just wanted to show everything in case it was needed.

Natch, I dont want to have it stay like this and would like it to at least appear that it is burning correctly................but since i first posted, I DO see that it did burn ok and can see and use it in both PCs now.

Use MITSUI normally but right now am using MITSUMI which I tend to use for data CDs and so far hasnt caused me any problems in my other 'puter.
Am presently out of Mitsui anyway so cant test with that, but dont feel that it is the type of CD being used..........

In joliet mode, Nero should never replace spaces by underscores ... ... there is a long filname issue in 5.5.x but that isn't the problem - Nero can be good for everything you need.

And I think you should really try to re-install your windows ... and I would also not recommend to use NTI and Nero together ...

Ive used the two together on the other puter, as I said and never a problem.
I know others as well who have done the same.
Perhaps however on THIS PC it is a conflict.
You may be right there.

I would be willing to use NERO if I could ever figure out HOW or what settings to use in order to get my file names to write them the same as I have them on the hard drive for I have over 200 CDs and I just cant keep changing file names everytime I need to put them back on.
Thats why I dont use Nero and wont until someone either explains to me, setting for setting how to get it to stop that wonky file name business.

Secondly, another problem I dont like with Nero, in audio format, is when I go to drag and drop the file names to make a compliation CD, I dont have control as I do with NTI.
Nero seems to take over and place them where NERO wants them.
NTI does not.

If anyone wishes to explain to me how to get around these two isses then I would be more than happy to cancel any use of NTI from here on in, but so far, no one has ever been able to do so.

As far as Windows being installed properly?
Its fine.
I have Ghost images etc and it works beautifully otherwise and I am defragged, chkdsk /f 'd, spyware free, ..etc.........its not a Windows problem.
This computer is maintained very well and there arent any issues with it other than this new install yesterday.

Cant tell you how it was connected.
BF did it but connected it exactly as the one before was done by the guys who made the PC for me.

The only time I've seen this happen is when a filename is too long.

I've only seen one cd writing program (Easy CD Creator) even bother to warn a user about a name being too long, and recommend renaming it. What I have experienced is most of them simply renaming the file to something "compliant" without even notifying the user of the changes being made, which is a complete headache especially if an M3U, or PLS playlist file was written on the disc.

I don't know if this will help or not, however perhaps you can use a re-writtable CD-RW disc for testing purposes, and rename your files to something shorter like "04-I_Want_More_Part_2.mp3" to see if that remedies the problem.

Of course you could also enable the writting of Long Joliet Names which allows 103 character filenames, something which burnatonce (www.burnatonce.com) is capable of doing in the ISO settings. I'm not familiar with NTI or Nero therefore I don't know how you would enable that feature in them, if they have that capability.

It must have been a software issue with this particular CDRW for I have had all the same programs installed before on this 'puter but never this problem with NTI, or maybe with that particular NTI version.

I did download a file update at NTI to support this burner but it still isnt seeing it, however for some wonky reason, NERO is now burning just fine.


Yes, your comments about NERO are the reason I dont like it for anything other than VCDs, SVCDs, etc.

However, NTI CD MAKER PRO which is often found at FOSI hasnt ever let me down until now.

I know quite a few audiophiles who believe LAME VBR or MPC files are akin to God and they turned me on to NTI for the same reason.
I figured they knew more than I.........and up until now, they were right!


So no, NTI doesnt mess up your file names and it is by far the easiest CDRW program I have ever used.
Simple, but good.


Unfortunately, I have gigabytes upon gigabytes upon more gigabytes of Music and I cant be changing their file names every time I need to burn a cd.



Somebody here MUST be able to tell me what settings one uses on Nero to stop the file name change............or, at least how one stops Nero from placing songs in the order IT wants, not what I want?
