I was wondering if it is OK that my Dire Straits Live - Alchemy discs (from 1984) have a lowpass of ~17 KHz.

Edit: The cymbals also sound very weird.

OK, I have noticed that this CDs have the Pre-Emphasis bit set. Do I have to enable any options when converting to APE or MP3? I know that the MP3 format provides two pre-emphasis flags (50/15 ms and CCITT j.17).

Edit: I assume that I would have to enable -e 5 (50/15 ms) in LAME when converting from WAV to MP3.
