Hi,
is there a way to encode without padding?

I've to split an mp3 file into three parts, decode one, encode it again and concatenate them again. The Problem is that lame adds a few ms of silence to the file.

anybody an idea?

Recent LAMEs adds some information to the header regarding this.

You need a *de*coder that knows about it. Foobar2000 will do...

As these 3 files are merged again, it doesn't really matter if there is some silence at the beginning of the merged file. My Problem is that the audio data dosn't fit anymore after merging. This results in a "click" in the soundfile.

I'am currently using mpgedit (mpgedit.org) to split the file and merge it again.

Example:
test.mp3 (5min)
-split up -> test.part1.mp3, test.part2.mp3, test.part3.mp3
-decode test.part2.mp3 -> test.part2.wav
-encode test.part2.wav -> test.part2.mp3 (now there is some silence at the beginning)
-merge again to test.mp3

If I understood you correctly if mpgedit knew about this new header stuff this think should work, shouldn't it?
