They called him "The Genius" for a good reason: he was one, his music effectively heralded the beginning of modern soul, funk and R&B. James Brown gets all the credit, but Ray Charles did most of the heavy lifting.
I think it's a crying shame that his death was so overshadowed by that of the Alzheimer's-stricken Ronald Reagan.
