Hi guys!
I'd like to hear some opinions on tagging and replaygain. I want to retag my entire mc (<1000 songs) which is a mix of mp3 (there're several mp2) and ogg vorbis.

Until now, I've used easytag and updated all mp3s to id3v2. next I want mp3s to be replaygained (oggs are already). I would also like to upgrade mp3s to APEv2 (on this forums I've read it superceeds mp3).

vorbis is a lot simpler to handle with it's one and only comment standart.
Now the question: How can I strip every known tags (id3v1, id3v2, etc.) from the mpegs and write ape tags (i can use a windows box if required).

And are there players for linux with APE tag support?

I find frontah easy to use, when converting from one tag-type to another. It's windows only though (dont know if you can use wine).

Apetag is another possibility.

And of course foobar2000 under Windows/Wine.

What about replaygain with mp3gain and foobar? I've read somewhere they use different approaches.

MP3gain modifies the file so that you get equal loudness even though your player does not support replaygain. foobar2000 only writes a replaygain info in a tag and hence you need a player that supports replaygain. There are pros and cons with both approaches.
