Has anyone compiled a comprehensive (legal) download site list with compression and encoder used to create the songs? If not, let this thread be a place to post this information.

My contribution:

iTunes. AAC at CBR 128. iTunes 4.2 encoder used to compress songs. Unknown what was used for rip. Assume iTunes.

Napster 2.0. WMA at CBR 128. Windows Media 9 encoder used to compress songs. Unknown what was used to rip.

Yes, I know a great many HA users could care less about legal download sites, but many who come to these forums do. This can be a great resource for them.

My favorite resource for classical and jazz is eMusic:

eMusic was a fave of mine until it changed hands and starting limiting downloads to a ridiculously low number of tracks. I bailed when that happened. I had, however, put together a collection of 20 gig, 4,500 files of pretty good music. Before they limited downloads they were the best around. cool.gif
