Full Version: nice_mc plugin - works?

Nice_MC is a input plugin for Winamp that plays DVD's and videos.
It doesn't use Winamps video window, it opens its own.
Does this mean that it would work for Foobar with the Winamp Inout wrapper plugin, or will it just crash or something? blink.gif

There are currently two Winamp wrapper plugins for fb2k floating 'round: one that wraps (some) INPUT plugins (foo_input_winamp) and one that wraps (some) VIS plugins (foo_vis_bacon). I seriously doubt that any of those would wrap that plugin.

Perhaps someone should ask author of Nice_MC to make a foobar plugin? :B

I can ask him

I tried to install it and let the winamp input wrapper plugin take care of it. I don't have a dvd player on this machine, but I tried to open wmv, mpg and avi-files.
The video window actually popped up, and in the taskbar it got a icon named video window, but foobar said that this format can't be played. crying.gif

But I will try with the bacon plugin, and if that isn't working, I'll try winamp's directshow-plugin, just to be sure it doesn't work.

But I think there is just small changes in the nice_mc_media plugin to make it work for foobar, so I'll e-mail the author, and hope he'll help us

Better try

Media Player Classic @fileforum.com
Media Player Classic @sourceforge (Project Page)

or

Zoom Player std @fileforum

Zoom Player std/pro - home

instead of abusing foobar smile.gif

If foobar can handle those filetypes *one day*and any video-stuff is *only* loaded, when a video-file is opened, and the man who manages this video-plugin is doing a great job in giving configuration-possibilities, *then* I change myself and will use it.
But before I only use apps which are great at their job.

I already have Media Player Classic for my videos and DVD's, I love its "always on top when playing" option.

But I prefer a "Multimedia Center", rather than one separate mp3 player, video player and stuff....

I will ask the author if he can make this to foobar, cause it is a great plugin....

Nice_mc version 1.7 doesn't work with the Winamp Input Plugin. When you try to run a video, Foobar2000 crashes & you see a .txt file listing the crash stuff. There is a new Nice_mc avaliable at the authors homepage but the freeware part of the newer version of Nice_mc is adware which I dispise (you have a choice to install the adware version or the shareware version).

Wich is exactly the reason why one shouldn't try to make winamp plugins work with foobar2000 in the first place. It is bound to break things and cause arbitrary crashes and far from recommended.

Winamp Input wrapper plugin is the thing made to the connector until native plug-in of fooobar2000 comes out, in order to hear GYM etc.

It is better to think that it does not move except plug-in of a well-mannered PCM output.

About GYM playing: there's a decent .GYM plugin here: http://www.zophar.net/utilities/gym.html

It does need some overhauling; but it works reasonably well.

There's nothing wrong with trying to make Winamp Plugins work with Foobar. Yes, some plugins do crash but the Winamp Input Wrapper is a good idea cause there are a good amount of input plugins which work with Winamp Input Wrapper.

Winamp Video plugins do crash Foobar2000 but many of the input plugins for Winamp do work with the Input Wrapper. Also, remember, that most plugin authors will only support Winamp which means that they won't convert their plugins to Foobar,

And how come you are exactly the expert on this issue? Do you happen to have very advanced knowledge of the Foobar2000 architecture that somehow the author of foobar2000 lacks.

Consider it as the official opinion that there is something wrong with using Winamp plugins in FB2K. What you do personally and wether you want to use them privately is entirely up to you and no one will mind that whatsoever. But please refrain from posting false information in a public forum.

Well maybe it would be an even better idea for you (that apperently has so much knowledge about these things) to write native Foobar plugins that can perform these tasks you so much miss from Winamp.

I never tried to act like an expert on Foobar2000. Everything in my post is my opinion. And no, I am not posting false information. What, should have written that I don't think that there is nothing wrong with using the Winamp Input Wrapper. I do believe that it is a good program but yes, it does crash Foobar but I've only had the crash on several occasions which pretty much was when using video plugins, & a couple of other plugins.

And yes, I do have a problem finding the right words to say. Well, the major problem is that many of the Winamp Plugins don't come with source code, you 9 times out of 10, you have to contact the author.

And no, I don't miss the features of Winamp. In fact, Winamp is crap compared to Foobar which is now my favorite player.

Point taken.

Sorry for coming across a bit harsh in the last post. Late night moderating I'd say wink.gif

Although I do still stand by the points I made there. Winamp plugins are know to cause problems that aren't nessecarily always apperent to the end user. And that goes for every single one of them.

Contacting the autors of certain plugins wether they are willing to make a foobar port of them night indeed be a good idea though.
