Full Version: FAAD2 decoding problem

I bought a lot of stuff on AllOfMP3 recently and mostly files in high bitrate AAC (what they call audiophile preset). But strangely 3 out of 300 files can't be played with in_mp4 or CoreAAC found on RareWares... But they do play in iTunes !

The latest in_mp4 (based on FAAD2) outputs the following error : "Gain control not yet implemented"... Is this a known issue and already corrected ? I like iTunes but I'd like to be able to play the files elsewhere too...

Is it possible for me to get one of those files somehow and see what might be the issue?

See PM (coming)

<menno> and is in last frame, known bug in psytel
<menno> IIRC psytel used to add some tag at the end f the file, mp4creator has problems with that creates bogus frame

Current FAAD (in foobar) will actually play the files back entirely before giving the errors on that last bogus frame.

Anyway, someone should tell them it's time to upgrade to Nero AAC which has that bug fixed smile.gif

But I think their encoding process is automated. Is the AAC DLL API of Nero open ?

edit: BTW, I will contact them and let them know about the pb
edit: is there a way to "clean" these files ? remux or something like that...

Did you get the M4A files directly from them? Or did you get an AAC file?
Because it seems to me that the files are not really created with mp4creator, since it also has an iTunNORM tag (or maybe you already played it in iTunes with soundcheck turned on?) and custom comment data.

Anyway, I heard somewhere that allofmp3 was using the psytel encoder, and this issue has come up before.

Since allofmp3 seems to be quite popular it would be nice to know what exactly they use and maybe to help them "get it right".

You could try to extract the AAC data, "delete" the last frame and put it back in a MP4 file. Figuring out what the last frame is might be a bit difficult though smile.gif

Yes, I get an .m4a directly. But I played it in iTunes (the way I knew it worked) with soundcheck enabled.

I think I'll try to convert it to .mka with mkvmerge and back to .m4a (or .aac) to see if it works. Otherwise what other tool could remux an .m4a ? mp4creator ?

BTW, thanx to both for the help.

edit: would it help to track the problem origin if I download one of them again ? (I already did twice for the 3 of them)
