Hello,
I was wondering what the complete commandline of "--alt-preset standard" is. I mean, "--r3mix" was also a shortcut to a long command line

There is no command line equivalent of --alt-preset standard because it is not simply an alias to other switches, it is an actual encoding mode itself. You can read about what it does with --alt-preset help or by looking at the LAME changelog for LAME 3.90

Yay, yet another person who thinks --alt-preset standard is another --r3mix. =P

If the FAQ is ever coming up, and it is going to contain bits about LAME, perhaps this is one of those questions that should be answered in the FAQ?

It's a pretty common misconception, and understandably so.
You have to dig thru message boards to learn otherwise. I myself didn't realize it was invoking code in LAME not used by other command line parameters for quite a while, and I wasn't exactly a newbie.

But the question is why would you want to know? Why not be content with what the presets give you?

I'm not quite sure why, but I couldn't help but laugh out loud at your post.
"You DARE to question the power of the Presets after all that they have provided?"
"But master, all I wanted to know was...."
"Silence!! You will NOT dare to bestow thought upon such matters for the safety of our world, is that understood?"
(Chris drops to his knees and begs for forgiveness from the almighty Preset Gods and swears he will not question their omniscience ever again....)

LOL @Chris
you got it
Actually, I guess it's a good thing that people ask these kind of questions, though a quick look through older threads should have answered the question. However, those who weren't around when aps was incorporated into lame in dec 2001 (i think) may have a hard time catching up.
By asking questions, they become more informed, instead of just using and praising alt preset standard (or extreme, etc) like a farm of sheep. Sure it's nice to know that aps kicks ass, but it would also be nice to know how it got to be that way.

Of course I advocate questioning things (too) so you can gain at least a basic understanding. I hope you didn't misinterprete my last postings. But this single question is asked _many_ times and I don't know why. Not that they would ask what's the difference between for example --aps and 320kbps CBR or why is --aps preferred, this would make sense to me. I think many of them believe that they can do better than the developers.
Perhaps, but as the operator of a site dedicating to helping people use EAC + LAME, this issue is one of the ones I receive the most e-mail about.
Not once have I ever received an e-mail from someone implying that they could improve on the presets, 100% of them simply want to know 'what in the world does alt preset standard' mean and 'what switches is it actually using' ?
I can't even begin to count how many times I've linked to the post at HydrogenAudio that explains how the presets came to be. Usually as soon as someone sees that thread, and realizes the people behind the presets know more about acoustical models than most ever would in 5 lifetimes, they simply acknowledge the presets as being almighty and are grateful for the short command line.
