Full Version: A(nother) prog to repair mp3's with missing headers?
Hydrogenaudio Forums > Lossy Audio Compression > MP3 > MP3 - General

EAC in combination with LAME.exe sometimes still produces VBR mp3's with a missing (or corrupt?) header, although it didn't happen to me for a long time now.

Peter's little tool VBRfix (from http://www.blorp.com/~peter/zips/)
never did the job for me to repair these kind of 'corrupt' VBR mp3's !!!

I was using 'WAP VBR FIX v5.2.10' to fix them and it worked pretty well in the past!
Unfortunately it doesn't work correctly under WinXP. Because it's the only OS i've got on my harddisk(s), i need another one or a newer version of that great tool.

Any suggestions? Can anybody point me to another prog or give me a link to an updated version of that great little tool?

Thanks in advance !!!

Thanks, i will give it try! Don't have a corrupt one right now! But will fool around with it on regular ones :flipoff: !!!

I will send all of my mp3's that would be destroyed by that prog to your private e-mail account :diabolic:

Fortunately there's an updated, Windows XP compatible version at http://www.willwap.co.uk/. wink.gif

But it doesn't start here, it's complaining that there's a missing readme

I have these files:

OptionDescriptions.txt
read+.txt
read-me.txt
vbrfix.exe

Which file is missing?

Thanks a lot for that link, prefer that prog over the one rjamorim suggested, it's much more powerful!

I just downloaded it and it works for me! (...runnning WinXP)
No errors occured, it's just running like a racehorse (okay, like a very slow one, when it's processing a file :jawdrop: ) here.

Have you really extracted it to a folder or have you just started it out of a compression tool directly?
Sounds silly, but i had some trouble in the past with programs, when i tried to run them directly out of a compression tool like winzip .... just an idea ...
I got just the same files like you have, it adds another file called 'VBRFix.ini' after first start!

Good luck anyway, thanks for help!

Edit:
I highly recommend that tool for corrupt VBR mp3's (for those people it would work).
Never had troubles with it (unless it just didn't work under WinXP), neither it destroyed one mp3 file, nor it didn't help here

I started it from a folder... dunno what's wrong then... crying.gif

It works here too. Shall I send you the files so you can test with them instead?

So, just another idea! What about your VB6 runtime files?
Or maybe you want to try to build your own 'ini-file', here's the content of my VBRfix.ini

Let First Frame Have Change in MPEG Version=True
Quick VBR Check=False
Stop If MPEG Changes=True
LastRunMajor= 5

That can't be it... i'm using the files from the original zip: http://www.willwap.co.uk/Downloads/VBRFIXv5-3-3.zip

But send me the files, (remove nospam)... i wanna try that anyway.

Nope, doesn't work, neither with those files "theduke" sent me, nor with different VB6 runtimes.

I'll try it on my second PC later, it has a fairly fresh XP installation. I'll be damned if it doesn't run there...

Just being curious, on which OS did you try it?

Is this the same as when Mp3Gain corrupts the file?, can it be fixed the same
way?

mp3Gain never corrupted one file on my disk, and it adjusted the volume of over 2500 files without any hassle here some weeks ago, so i can't answer your question!
But if the corruption that was introduced by mp3gain has to do with a VBR header problem you really should try that tool. It's really kind of a tiny download (~71 KB)biggrin.gif

You just have to put in a folder, no registry mess up!
