I see some mention of a "WinAmp aacPlus plugin in the next few months". Any chance of getting a plugin for Foobar2000 before then?

Or is there already one..?

aacPlus is another name for HE-AAC. At least in this case (files created by RealProducer are HE-AAC, and not any exotic SBR implementation).
foobar2000 supports he-aac playback since july or august 2003. Winamp too, but with faad2 input plugin (not the native one).

I saw a lot of misinformation by Vorbis zealots there, so I replied.

However, they are streaming in RAM, not in pure AAC format. foobar2000 can't handle this AFAIK? Though I suppose if XMMS can handle it it isn't unovercomable. (Edit: does XMMS really support it? They link to it on the site but I'm not sure if thats really the intention)

FAAD doesn't support the Realmedia specific RAM container of course.

Does foobar, or will it ever, support the *.ram extension (a RealMedia container format I guess)? I imagine it might be easy enough if it's just a container, but is it legal, as it makes it harder for Real to push their player?

I would like to try that stream, but the fact that I seem to need Realplayer, makes me wonder if it's worth it. Real has been working for years and years to make me see a flashing, red warning light when something is related to them. ph34r.gif

FYI, I use "Real Alternative" for Real content, as it uses "Windows Media Player". Same goes for "QuickTime Alternative".

But it appears the AAC support is new to Real Player version 10, and Real Alternative will need to be updated..

Here's the two Alterative programs:

More on the "classic" version of Media Player and something about Real Player plus some other stuff that might be useful towards Foobar2000 plugins..

I'd like to hear that AAC stream in Foobar2000..

I refuse to install Real Player.
