--alt-preset cbr 128 -b80 -V4 -Y

Sounds really good!
Till now there isn't any VBR preset@128!
Something like OGG's -q4

What do you think?

That's because --alt-preset 128 (w/o any additional switches) does the same thing, only better. It will give you a joint-stereo ABR stream with a lowpass of 17.5Khz and decent quality (well, that depends on your ears, I personally would go for --aps). IMO, unless you are a LAME developer, don't mess with switches; in most cases you will only impair (not improve) sound quality.

CBR commandline with -b, -V, and -Y switches?
tangent
Nomedor obviously doesn't know what he's doing.

The command line does nothing but override ap-cbr128's parameters, turning it into a VBR with minimum bitrate 80. So basically it uses all the other cbr128 parameters such as lowpass 17.5, athtype 2, nspsytune, ns-bass -6, etc.

Of course, we all know that command line would suck compared to ap128 because vbr at that bitrate is just inferior to abr.

I belived that using vbr instead of abr would be better even at these bitrates!

Before some time (before altpresets) When I tested ABR against VBR at these bitrates and even lower! I found more artifacts at ABR.

Ofcourse i'm not a specialist of lame!
That was just a thought! o use AP's parameters and -V switch!

Are you sure that VBR is worst than ABR??????

See this thread:
Suggest ~160kbps VBR setting.

There's already been a discussion about why Lame ABR sounds better than VBR at lower bitrates (below 160kbps).

If Lame was properly tuned, then yes, VBR would always sound better than ABR. Unfortunately, just adding some switches to the commandline isn't going to tune the program's code. So if you want a bitrate lower than what --alt-preset-standard -Y gives you, then you should use the --alt-preset ABR commands, preferably without any additional switches.
