Hi, i'm from Italy, and this is my first post here, on HA (even if i lurked it for one year)

First of all, excuse me for my bad english, i'll try to make my best (pls, if i'll make some GIANT error, correct me )

Well, now my problem....


I use MP3 only to ripping all my collection of Audio CD for my CAR MP3 player KENWOOD PSW-9525.

Until now, i've ever used 3.90.something suggested compile, but today i wanted to try 3.96.

Well, i've ripped some cds, and listening with Foobar, i've not noticed any problem, they seems to sounds good (and 3.96 is really fast compared to 3.90 !!)

BUT, listening on my Kenwood car player, in some tracks (expecially on classical music), there I can clearly hear some kind of "jitter" or something like that.

Could it be because the 3.96 generate some sort of "non standard" mp3, so my Kenwood is in difficoult decoding it ? Or vice-versa ?

I don't think that posting the files could be of any help, because in foobar there aren't any problem.

Any idea ?

(yeah i know....i should continue using 3.90...... )

Which parameters are you using when encoding?

Maybe the cds on which you record your mp3s are of bad quality

These VBR encoding MP3 modes suck, at least at supported MP3 players regards, which often mess'up when trying to play those. However, such encoding modes are also quite recommended for constant quality achieving (for any kinda lossy). Well, maybe if I'd to come back and rip to MP3 nevertheless, and 3.90.3 version isn't a concern for portable players' VBR support, I would certainly rather pick this Lame version instead.

What I mean is you'd better use what HA claims to be the safest MP3 Lame version, regardless wether you'll be gaining only some bits of space on encoding in APS with the new version for instance.

I use TDK cds....wich i have ever used....without any problem.

Yea, yes.....sure that i will continue using 3.90.....i was only curious to try 3.96 after all the words that i've read about it.
And now i hope that my problem could help the future of lame

The player that i've in my car have a very good mp3 support, it was also able to play some very strange non-standard mp3s in the past, but not this time.

Today i've tried to listen another album ripped with eac and 3.96 (Tha last IN FLAMES' album), and it presents the same problem, and it even hang at the end of one track.
So, the problem appears not only with classical music how i had noticed yesterday.
But it also sounds perfect when played with Foobar on my PC.

One point for 3.96 (and i don't know why), is that now finally, there is no gap between tracks
