After doing a quick experiment I succeeded in getting Ogg Vorbis files to play in iTunes. Since iTunes relies on Quicktime to playback audio I searched for a plugin for Quicktime that plays Ogg Vorbis. I found this plugin. Using that plugin I was able get Vorbis files playing back in iTunes. The plugin is both for Mac and Windows. Here's how to get Ogg Vorbis working in iTunes:

Download this plugin.

Extract it from the zip file.

For Windows users, put it in your C:\WINDOWS\System32\QuickTime folder.

Restart iTunes if it is open and then add a Vorbis file to the iTunes library and it will playback and even read the tags.

Enjoy.

Better close this.

Why? I was just pointing to other resources.

I think this guide is very interesting to iTunes users.

I did a search before this and didn't find anything so I went ahead and posted it. Just figured it would be useful to other iTunes users.

Can't wait for a Quicktime MusePack plugin to come out.

What about tagging and ripping ?
(can't test from here)

Very cool. I really like the iTunes interface. That 5 second gap between tracks with Vorbis is pretty painful though (or am I the only one with that issue).

I'm not sure if iTunes can write tags to Ogg Vorbis files correctly but it can read Ogg Vorbis tags with this decoder. As far as ripping goes, this is just an Ogg Vorbis decoder and not an encoder.

I'm not sure how flexible iTunes is with allowing external encoders to be used. I know that on the Mac you can use the LAME MP3 encoder thanks to Applescript. I haven't seen this implemented yet on Windows. I have heard its not possible on Windows since there is no Applescript but Apple released an SDK about using the COM interface with iTunes for Windows. Not sure if COM is like Applescript or not since I am not yet into programming (although I bought a book on C++, LOL). So if any developer could shed some light on that one that'd be great.

COM is component object model, so you (basically) write code in C, or C++, or some other language, and use COM calls to communicate with other programs.
Also, it now works with windows. http://sourceforge.net/forum/forum.php?thr...forum_id=135636
has binaries (and a source diff) for anyone who wants a faster version (it won't take ogg files as long to load.) Both windows and linux.
