Full Version: Corrupt tags!

I've used Mp3Tag and Mp3/TagStudio for various masstagging purposes, but it seems somehow tags have become corrupted in the process. It's very annoying because, among other problems, the plugin i use to display album covers in winamp report an error everytime i try to play a track.

In foobar it says [SYNTAX ERROR IN FORMAT STRING] in the status bar.

Is there anyway to know what exaclty have caused the problem, and fix it?

Thanks. smile.gif

Hi Hybelkanin, I suggest you to delete all tags with a tag killer crying.gif , for example ID3 Tag Killer (http://www.gd.co.yu/english/web.php?id=6) and rewrite them... I know it is annoying, but i think it's the only way to fix it.

The problem may have been caused by a software that doesn't use standard id3 tags, but it's hard to say... I suggest you to tag with id3-tagit (http://www.id3-tagit.de/), which is very stable, compatible and freeware (but unfortunately it needs .net framework...)

And, finally, avoid using multiple softwares to edit tags mad.gif , there are various versions of id3 (1.1, 1.0, 2.2, 2.3, 2.4) and not every software support them all

Bye cool.gif

Thanks alot, I'll do that.

DON'T.

To begin with, a [SYNTAX ERROR IN FORMAT STRING] can't have anything to do with broken tags.

(Unless you managed to put the text "[SYNTAX ERROR IN FORMAT STRING]" into one of your tag fields rolleyes.gif )

I don't think anything is wrong with your tags.

It should not be possible to get [SYNTAX ERROR IN FORMAT STRING] due to damaged tags.

Either your formatting string is fubar or you actually put [SYNTAX ERROR IN FORMAT STRING] in some tag.

Use Case's tag.exe to verify what is actually in the tag to illiminate the possibility of foobar being to blame.

My guess is that you used masstagger with a bad string and it wrote [SYNTAX ERROR IN FORMAT STRING] to the tag.

Oh yea, I forgot to mention all the tracks were from the artist "[SYNTAX ERROR IN FORMAT STRING]" biggrin.gif

(Not really dry.gif)

Using Winamp, Mp3Tag, Mp3/TagStudio, Mp3Tag&Rename or foobar, non of them show anything unusual withing the tag fields themselves. No abnormal information as far as I can tell.

The Cover & Tag plugin I use for winamp searches for cover images in the files and gives me this error "Not a JPEG file: starts with 0xd8 0xff". Seems like some strange faulty data a the beginning of the file? I really don't know much about this stuff.

What's this tag.exe you're talking about?

Go to Preferences -> Title formatting.

The problem is with your foobar setup, not your MP3s!
Hybelkanin
Oh, well the foobar thing is not really that important, I just assumed it was a part of the problem. But I guess not. Thanks, it looks nicer now tongue.gif

Though I'm still noticing problems with, in example, the Tag and Cover plugin. See the error message in my previous post.
