Hi guys,
After getting my new sound card (Mbox) I've decided that I want to get a good turntable to rip all my vinyl to my PC. I don't care about looks or features, I just need something that sounds good. My amp has a phono input, so no need to worry about that. The main problem is that I am in the UK and have only got a budget of £100 for both the TT and the cart. Is it possible to get a decent hi-fi table for these kind of prices or should I just give up?
I own a couple of Numark TT-100 tables with Ortofon carts - but I'm not sure how good they are in the hi-fi sense.

How about
Richer Sounds? Selling a Project turntable (not sure what Cartridge) for £102.00.
e-bay has some good turntables/cartridges as well.

You'll be lucky to get a good new one for that price. You may have to go the second hand route.
As far as I know you can get a Sony mini turntable with a built in preamp for around £100.

Richer Sounds has always been good to me, I'd like to give them some more trade. Is the Project TT good?
I recently bough a Denon DP-29J with built-it RIAA-stage (that i dont use bechause my Denon amp has a better one), which sounds fairly good and should be around £100-110 -110including pickup.

You can get some good turntables for well under £100 second hand.
I haven't heard the suggested ones that are around £100 new, but the good ones around this price range are generally MUCH better than some similar priced junk that is designed to complement a mini or midi system.

I'm not quite sure how you meant that!!!

I have no quibbles abgout getting one second hand, as long as I knew it was in good condition and the needle still has a little bit of life left in it. Can you tell me what ones I should look out for second hand?

Ok, I can narrow it down to either the
Project Debut II or the
Marantz TT42. Can anyone recommend either one of these? Is it worth spending the little extra to get the Marantz?
Tony
PS When it's listed as 'Auto', does that mean that the arm is automatically lifted off the platter after the end of the record? I don't really
need that...
Sorry for the bump. But I'm in a similiar situation right now and would appretiate some guidance, since I know less than nothing about turntables.

Well, I got the pink Pro-Ject Debut II from
http://www.superfi.co.uk/ for £115. I couldn't be happier with it. Sounds absolutley great.
170EUR are still quite a bit more than I can easily afford at the moment, but the Debut II is definetly my first choice if I'm going for a new one.
How long does it take to manually switch the belt from 33RPM to 44RPM?
