Hi all.

Simple question:
What tools should i be using to mux files to create MP4 files under Linux?

Thanks.
Bonzi
Ok, there are only about three or so that I know of. Of course there is the official mpeg4ip project http://www.sourceforge.net/projects/mpeg4ip and gpac http://www.sourceforge.net/projects/gpac and of course also ffmpeg which can be found at the mplayer site http://www.mplayerhq.hu As far as which one to use, I would use the one that comes with ffmpeg/mencoder/mplayer because this way you should be able to encode your video right into the mp4 container. Of course you can just mux avi to mp4 with ffmpeg too. If you files contain packed bitstream (ie created with DivX 5 or XviD w/ packed bitstream enabled) it would be best to use gpac as it can remove these ugly hacks.

Oh...
Well im using the mplayer tools to encode, etc.

Im encoding my audio to OGG which i then want to mux with the video created by mencoder.
So how would i do this using mplayer tools?
Bonzi
You can't use vorbis audio if you want to mux it into a mp4 container. You will need to use mp3 or aac audio. I don't know the exact command line though, probably you will have to take a look at the man page.

Argh, ok thanks.

I would use OGM, but ive been having problems with audio sync with the ogmtools (ive talked to the tools author, cant get it fixed).

Any other containers i can use?

matroska, AVIMux GUI (despite its name tongue.gif) would be the easiest tool to create MPEG4+OGG Vorbis-matroska files

but for linux MKVToolnix might be your best option

Yes thats right, if you wish to use ogg vorbis audio, probably matroska using mkvtoolnix is the best bet. It can be found at http://www.bunkus.org/videotools/ there also OGMTools at that same site which is supposed to be quite good. But I would just use matroska.
