What type are these tags? APE? Id3v1/ Id3v2? AFAIK id3 tags do not support unicode so here may be a problem. Try to play with id3v2 tag reader options.

Check also preferences -> display -> Double-width characters in title formating...

Do you reload info from file every time you change something? Try also nuke database, remove all playlists and then add everything to playlist again.
