Full Version: How to use GPsycho as the psymodel?

How do I engage GPsycho as the psymodel and is this model compatible with the standard preset if it's activated? Also can --ns-msfix be used with GPsycho successfully? Just playing around with settings and I'm curious what kind of quality results I would get using another psymodel.

Using either a debug or an alpha build, you can change psy model with --psymodel 0/1

If you're curious enough to want to test these settings (any particular reason why? most of this stuff was looked at in depth quite a long time ago if you remember..), why don't you simply do some listening tests and find out?

And no, the alt-presets were tuned entirely around nspsytune -- using gpsycho will very likely give poor results.

And, IIRC, ns-msfix (if the switch even exists anymore haven't looked in a long time) only works with nspsytune.

At any rate, it isn't advised to mess around with the switches at these levels if you want high quality. You should really only be experimenting with this stuff if you're actively doing listening tests, etc.

The curiosity I have is because I recently listened to some older LAME encoded mp3s that I still have in my collection and they sounded pretty good. What exactly wasn't so good about GPsycho anyway? Were the best parts of GPsycho's model included in nspsytune? Or is it a completely separate model altogether developed along a different set of principles?

People with good high frequency hearing (e.g., bAdDuDeX) complained of ringing in CBR encodes with bitrates as high as 192 kbit/s.
