Full Version: ID3 tag software

I use Tag&Rename (http://www.softpointer.com/tr.htm) for editing mp3 tags.
Generally it is pretty good and supports almost every function needed, bad it doesn’t support moving folders and mp3s, it is not freeware and it certainly is not the most user friendly program to use (at least not until you get accustomed to it).
What other software for ID3 tags would you suggest or happen to know?

I know this answer is a big cliché, but try foobar and it's masstagger. It's very powerful and also really easy to use.
Just remember to set MP3 tag writing (Prefs|Playback|Input|Standard inputs) to whatever tag format you want to use.

I think this question has been answered a lot of times on Hydrogenaudio. Anyways, I use MP3Tag, as it is freeware, full of useful assistents and features, and has an excellent support.

Sorry, I'm new to all the mp3 ripping stuff and Hydrogen Audio and I haven't see most of the topics. I'm downloading Mp3tag right now.
As for foobar, I see lots of people talking about it in forum but I still don't know what it is. mellow.gif

Hmmm I'm using MP3 Book Helper

"This program provides rapid Mp3 (ID3v1, ID3v2) and Ogg Vorbis tags editing and file renaming functions. Mass Tag editing is done using special variables and Regular Expressions.

Undo and preview for all changes, capitalization, search and replace, use parts of file name or directory structure for tags. Directory renaming and restructure based on tags. All customizable and configurable.

Get the artist and album information from the freedb database over internet.

Play your mp3 files in Winamp or internal player while editing Tags. It will auto pause and resume Winamp when renaming or updating files.

It can also be used to easily create WinAmp-compatible playlists (M3U files), Information (NFO) files, Parity archive (PAR) data recovery files, Simple File Verify (SFV) and Sound Verification (.SV) checksum files.

You can export and import ID3 tags to and from XML and comma delimited text files, verify CRC/MD5 checksums and more.

Originally it was designed for managing audiobooks but could be used for any mp3 and ogg files."

You can move files using the rename function.

I downloaded and tried MP3Tag.
- The positive is that it is a small, free, simple and very easy to use program.
- The cons are that it is a bit slow in some tasks (track numbering) and it has bad file exploring (navigation). Still looks great for quick and simple tagging.

I'll try all the programs mentioned till I find the best.

I am sure, TheGodfather will do what you've been searching for. The only drawbacks are a bad integration with foobar (but if you don't know foobar, that will be an advance) and a steep learning curve. But after you spend some hours learning the way it works, you'll not find anything that's faster.,
And it features the ability to physically organize/restructure files.

Foobar masstagger changes id3v2 genres to numeric equivalents.... the only reason why I keep tag updating off in foobar. TGF is good, but ID3 Tag-It is a faster alternative for mp3's smile.gif

masstagger in fb2k or case's tag.exe with the tag frontend or tagger.

Try MP3 Tag Studio. I have used it for three years now and have never needed anything else. I highly recommend the software. The full version has built-in ads but is NOT adware. You can use it safely. Besides, Foobar is a good choice too. Bye.

I'm curious as to what you mean by this; it sounds more like a case of improper tagging to me.
