Those of you who may be <64kbps Ogg experimentalists may want to consider checking out John33's OggDropXP, which has the downmix and resampling switches enabled, as well as a few other nifty features.

I've been getting encodes down to the mid 30's (kbps) suitable for modem streaming (downmix & resample), so streaming Vorbis is a reality for me at least, even before the optimisations. It sounds pretty reasonable too!

Never be ashamed about self promotion smile.gif

Is this an RC4 beta release, I have heard very encouraging words about it...cannot wait until it makes RC4.

Hehe, I didnt write OggDropXP... I do like it a lot though.

I'm sure in time dbPoweramp will be doing the same things if it isnt already. I like that app, Spoon! smile.gif

It's not official RC4, however compiles are being marked as that currently. When RC4 does appear, rest assured we will know about it.

Thanks smile.gif, good luck contracting...I am sure you will never look back

I tend to stay away from betas as much as I can, just going for stable releases - my plate is pretty full and my user base perhaps tends not to be the cutting-edge-crowd, rather joe-bloggs smile.gif.

Huh... John33's compiles are being marked as [b]pre-
RC4.

At least at my mirrors.

Where have you seen that?

From command.com, oggenc.exe :

C:>oggenc
OggEnc v0.95 (libvorbis rc4)

ERROR: No input files specified. Use -h for help.

The RC4 bit is the tricky part for the untrained eye.

Its been saying RC4 for some time now; since the addition of downmixing and resampling, but, it's not quite there yet.wink.gif

... i started this discussion here. biggrin.gif

Seriously....

Why OggDropXP and oggenc have different 'q' settings ?
I think 'cause it manages channel propreties (stereo/mono/multichan) not so well.

The streamable feature of Vorbis don't seems a priority yet.

Unfortunally some peoples (like me and rc55.... oh... what about BBC ??? smile.gif ) needs thoose features now.

Even on video applications, like MPEG-4 & Vorbis, i haven't seen any experiment with speex for speak-channel...

What i definitly mean is that ogg/vorbis project needs a better co-ordination...

...am i wrong ? rolleyes.gif

From what I see, Xiph is concentrating on getting Ogg Vorbis out the door first. IIRC, Emmett Plant never heard of Speex when I mentioned it (!), so perhaps its a relatively small project in comparison.

Seeing as the Vorbis rc4 is soon, and 1.0 will probably be sometime before the end of the year. I don't really question Vorbis' progress because it always seems to be done in leaps and bounds.

I'm not sure what you mean? The 'q' settings are the same and produce the same bitrates. In fact, they produce bit identical files; as they should since they use exactly the same library routines, etc.???
