Simple problem here that's slowly driving me insane - I think others have seen it, since I've seen a few "having problems ripping to WMA lossless w/EAC" threads, but they didn't explictly describe the following problem:
Short form is that I've set up the latest version of EAC to rip WMA lossless on two different machines now - both running XP Professional. On each, I've installed the windows media encoder. On each, I'm usually able to get the rips working - meaning, I see the directory appear, .WAV files appear, and then a DOS window appears which shows the Windows Media Encoder compressing/converting the WAV to a WMA file... and at the end of the process, I'm left with just the lossless WMA file (the WAV file having been deleted automatically).
So far so good.
Within a disc or two later, same machine, same settings, everything described above happens up to the point of compression (the black DOS window appearing). That black window appears, but only for a split second - it then disappears, and EAC goes on and rips the next track, thinking compression is finished. It's almost as though it's not finding the codec or something, but I swear *nothing* has changed since the last, successful run - I've only replaced the disc with a new one.
Again, this has happened on two machines. On one of them, I've even flattened it and reinstalled Windows from scratch. At this point I'm tearing my hair out since I can't find reference to this problem anywhere. I've tried using the new EAC and just telling it to rip lossless, I've tried using EAC and running cscript with command line parameters - the same problem happens.
Any ideas? Appreciate your time on this one...
