Hi,

I have a PC with 2 users using foobar 0.8.3. All music files are properly tagged, but I've found something really bizarre. Some files with replaygain and almost all (+- 90%) files with 'added' tag aren't displayed in one of the users foobar blink.gif

I mean, they show in my foobar but not in the other user account, and we're using exactly the same database, same input standard tags (id3v2). Files aren't read-only and database doesn't have block update enabled.

Just to make sure, I've check the files that have these tags non displayed by one of foobar's user with tagger, and these tags are there, even if foobar doesn't display it huh.gif

I've re-scan several times the database in the user account, but the problem persist. Someone knows something about that? sad.gif

Thanks a lot.

No one? Everybody in holidays? smile.gif

Thanks a lot.

Make sure that you've didn't check 'Enable per-user settings' during foobar2000's setup - otherwise both users will have their own database.

You can easily see if this is the problem by right clicking the files in question in the playlist and selecting Database->Reload info from files.

Yes, I know, but if a file is tagged phisicaly, then is tagged smile.gif If I re-scan the database, the tag is there (checked with 'tagger') but foobar still doesn't displaying it for one user. In the other it's displayed. This is really strange.

For example I tag some files under one user account with 'added' tag. I switch to the other user account, pass the files throught 'tagger' and see that the field 'added' is there. Then I open foobar under the same user account and re-scan the database, I run extended playlist geenrator and query: added MISSING and these files are on it blink.gif I check under properties and the field 'added' is missing. I recheck with 'tagger' and the field is there. I switch to the inital user account and open foobar, same query and the playlist is empty. The files have the field 'added' on it under the properties window.

The files aren't read-only and I didn't enable the 'block tag update' under the database settings.

It doesn't makes sens isn't? huh.gif cool.gif

No, it doesn't wink.gif

I've just re-checked the files in question. For some strange reason after switching back and forward between users accounts I confused the files to check...

For an strange reason, the files in question don't have those values tagged, but are written in the database. So of course know it makes sens....

Can I somehow write the values in database to the files?

Yes. 'Database, Rewrite file tags from database'

Well I don't know if this is a bug or it's relied to my system. I'll report anyway, let's see if other people experienced the same behavior.

I've finally managed to solve the 'problem'. For some reason when I masstag my library (not via masstagger, but i.e. 'rewrite file tags from database' or 'replaygain as multiple albums' or via 'Show file info (special) Multiple items') foobar skips a lot of files and instead of tagging these files, it updates the database. No one of my files are read-only and I don't have the block tag update enable in database.

I noticed that with another user account on my PC. He has exactly the same settings I have for database, we share the same music library and same tag system (id3v2). We only have different users profiles enabled to have different displaying and customize interfaces.

When I do these operations (tagging) on my files it seems that everything has gone correctly. But then I notice in the other account that these files doesn't show the same information as in my foobar. I pass them through 'tagger' and I see that the information hasn't been tagged. So it's on the database blink.gif

If for ex. I then try 'Rewrite file tags from database', it rewrite most of the files correctly but left another without tagging (still in the database). and I have to do it several times until everything has been tagged.

The only explanation that comes to my limited mind is that my system hangs (memory lack or something) and some files are skipped when the system tries to recover some virtual memory.

Maybe the two users don't have write access to each others files?
(I'm not sure how default access is set, but it would make sense if you didn't have write access to other users' "My Documents" folder and it's contents, or other files/folders created by the other user)

Nop. We have write acces to the folders. Most of the time it's only me that tag the files and my account is administrator. It's a 'MP3' folder under a separate HD (non where windows is installed). Isn't under 'My documents' or any other user specific system related folder blink.gif So, i don't think the problem is there.

BTW: using P3 800Mhz 320 RAM, Windows XP Pro SP1.
