Full Version: MPC CPU Priority Setup?
Hydrogenaudio Forums > Lossy Audio Compression > MPC

I am transcoding of my music files into MPC using foobar. I am using "Commandline Encoder: MPC --xtreme".

When the foobar starts to convert using external mppenc.exe, it will automatically to set the CPU priority for the mppenc.exe as normail in Windows XP. While my system is running other program, the computer is getting sluggish and will affect my other program.

Is there any parameter I can use to automatically set up the CPU priority below normal or even lower? I know there is a parameter for Lame.exe as "--priority (0-5)". Anything similar in MPC, or any method to get around this?

Couldn't find any command line options for this. Don't forget --xlevel in your mppenc commandline to avoid clipping. Should be:

--xtreme --xlevel

or

--quality 6 --xlevel

mppenc doesn't have any command-line parameters like that, but you could try adding "start /low" to the beginning of the command line. For example:
CODE
start /low mppenc --quality 6 --xlevel infile.wav
Type "start /?" for more information about what it does, and what other options you can use.

Many people have been asking about CPU usage durning encoding lately, I would do this, ALT+CTRL+DEL then find the process (mppenc.exe) & set it to idle (right click on it).

You could also try using speek's mpc batch encoder which allows you to set the priority to idle.

This method only works for the current track as I tried. Whenever it moves to next track encoding, the CPU usage will return back to "Normal".

Thanks for reminding, the foobar display name is "commandline encoder MPPENC --xtreme", actually it contains "--xlevel" in the pararmeters.

Archiving APE files into MPC to save spaces! huh.gif

Did I miss something, or isn't a priority slider in diskwriter's options to do that? I remember that it was a real pain on my computer to do anything else (reducing a window...) with a maximum CPU priority for CPU diskwriter. But with "minimum" (below "normal"), it's OK on my computer.

when you said "transcoding" i thought of some WMA -> MPC thing wink.gif

Well, I just tried what I suggested in Foobar, and it doesn't seem to be happy. It keeps saying "Unable to start start /low MPPENC.EXE", which is odd, since it works on the command line.

I tested it, and it works just fine for me. Don't know why I didn't see it before. sweat.gif
